Your independent vet in Haslemere

Our independent veterinary practice is about so much more than ‘just’ veterinary care. It’s about knowing you’ll always see the same vets and can get to know the people who care for your pets. It’s about every member of the clinic team building a history with each animal and treating them almost as if they were their own. It’s about your vet being a part of your community.

We’ve filled our new clinic with the latest in veterinary technology so we can provide you and your pets with first-rate care combined with continuity, compassion and consideration.

  • Hi, I'm Helen

I’m passionate about providing personalised care, where both pets and owners feel genuinely looked after. Animals have been a constant throughout my life, so becoming a vet always felt like a natural path. Today, my own animal family includes Basil, my scruffy Terrier, Figgy, my three-legged cat (the inspiration behind the cat in our logo), and four horses: Limerick, Poldark, Eric and Fly.

Setting up Haslemere Vets with Sophie feels  especially meaningful - we shared a house together while studying to be vets and have been close friends ever since.

After qualifying, I joined a small animal practice in Woking. I was there for eight years, working my way up to Clinical Director. During this time, I completed a postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Surgery, developing advanced surgical skills while still offering thoughtful, first-opinion care. I’ve also been able to work closely with referral-level surgical and dental specialists.

Outside of work, I’m very active. I spend a lot of time show jumping competitively with Eric and Fly. I also love cycling with Sophie – it’s important to us to spend time together as friends as well as business partners.

  • Hi, I'm Sophie

For me, building trusted relationships with both you and your pet, along with consistent care, is key to your pet’s well-being. I bring a calm, thorough approach to first-opinion veterinary care.

Helen and I studied veterinary medicine together at the University of Bristol, both qualifying in 2017. I’ve also completed a postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Medicine. I worked as a small animal vet in a practice in Lewes for eight years, during which time it changed from being independent to corporately owned.

Most recently, I worked in a veterinary hospital before deciding to set up my own independent practice with Helen. Setting up our own independent veterinary practice gives us the freedom to put pets, clients and clinical standards first.

Outside of work, I love exploring the countryside with my dog, Raffles – he’s the inspiration behind the dog in our logo! When I’m not out walking, you’ll find me running, cycling or swimming instead!

The Haslemere Vets’ story:

Helen:

I’ve always wanted to start my own practice - to have the freedom to make the right choices for our clients, their pets and our team. Picking the right location for the practice was a big part of making that vision a reality and I’m so glad we found this great spot here in Haslemere.

Why now?

I reached a point when I was working in a much larger practice where I couldn’t provide the kind of care I wanted to give. Everything was dictated by corporate targets – a far cry from the personal and considered approach that I feel veterinary care needs.

Haslemere Vets is that opportunity to provide great care at a much more individual level. And I know now is the right moment as I won’t ever have more flexibility than I do now!

Sophie:

For a lot of my career I worked in a practice that had a fantastic community feeling. But, when it became part of a larger corporate group, that changed and the practice did not feel better for it. Starting our own independent practice, rooted in the local community, will allow us to build real connections with our clients and to provide the personalised care that is so often missing in larger practices.

Why now?

I’ve always been a hard worker and, over time, it began to feel unrewarding putting that energy into building something for a large corporation. I also couldn’t quite find a practice that felt like the right fit. So, instead of continuing to search, I decided to create it!
